How Might We
How might we create an app for Australian households who are affected by the rising cost of living so that they can manage their budget and plan efficiently in grocery shopping.
Competitor Analysis
We analysed 3 direct competitor apps (Bring! Listonic and Wise list) and 1 indirect competitor app (Woolworth) . Except Woolworth, they all have the shopping list feature, but only wise list has the features of comparing price and recipes. However, WiseList is complicated to use because they include almost every financial services, which we tend to avoid in our app.

Logo Design & Style Guide
We made a few adjustments of the logo design to ensure it’s versatile and scalable.

We opted for a paper-look background in our shopping list app to create a more authentic and familiar user experience. This design choice evokes the traditional feel of jotting down lists on paper, which many users find comforting and intuitive.
We have chosen the Inter typeface for our shopping list app to ensure that items are displayed clearly and legibly. Inter is designed for optimal readability on digital screens, with clean lines and a modern aesthetic. This enhances the overall user experience by making it easier to scan and read the list quickly, ensuring that users can find and check off items with ease.

Iterations
Shopping List Page

We came up with two designs based on the testing.
Version A
Version B

OR

Version A has tabs of the full prices of shopping in Woolworths, Coles or shopping in both.
Version B automatically categorises the items to the supermarket with a cheaper price.
Final Design
After evaluating these two design options, we decided to move forward with Version B for PantryPal because it allows users to personalise their shopping lists and includes a 'Compare Prices' button. The price comparison button helps users quickly find the best deals, saving them time and money.

“The options of add to meal plan, add to favourite and add to list are very confusing.”
"I’d like to know the cooking time.”
"I’d like to know how much it costs when I plan my meal.”

Further development
Initially, we had the feature of meal planning in the design. With the limited time and capacity, we decided to prioritise the other features. As we advance PantryPal, we would like to keep developing meal planning. We also aim to broaden our supermarket coverage to include more stores such as Aldi and IGA. Additionally, we will enhance personalisation by allowing users to favourite items for future reference and create and share recipes with the PantryPal community.
Reflection
In this project, we spent a lot of time making sure the design is user-friendly from research to testing. We concentrated on analysing users' habits in creating shopping lists, grocery shopping routines, and meal planning processes to gain a comprehensive understanding of their pain points. This deep analysis guided us in addressing and solving these issues in every detail of the app. We respected the different opinions in the team and used the various ideas to make a more innovative and comprehensive app, integrating diverse perspectives to enhance the overall user experience.
